Mr Mfundo Myeki

Mr Mfundo Myeki was appointed as an Executive Director of Human Resources (HR) from 1 July 2019. Mfundo has 2years 9 month of experience in management and human resources at the University of Mpumalanga (UMP). He started in the university’s Employee Relations Section in 2017, when he was employed as Director: Employee Relations. Of significance, Mfundo holds LLM (Labour law); M.ED; B.A.Hon in Public Administration [NMMU]; B.ED (Rhodes); B.Sc. & HDE (UFH). He rose steadily up the ranks over the years in the education (from 1993 to 2015), from being a science teacher till his promotions as School Principal, during time which he was awarded Excellence in School Leadership Award in South Africa in 2005. Mfundo was later promoted to be a Circuit Inspector of schools and later Chief Education Specialist for Human Resources Development (HRD) & Labour Relations in the Eastern Cape Department of Education. He also had an opportunity to serve as Director: Corporate Services at the Ngqushwa Municipality (from 2007 to 2008) and Director: Employee Relations in the Eastern Cape Department of Health from 2015 to 2017 before he joined UMP. During his tenure in the education sector, he served as the Chairperson of the Education Labour Relations Council (ELRC), a sectoral bargaining council for education in South Africa from 2002 to 2006 and a Chief Negotiator for the employer in the Public Health & Social Development Sectoral Bargaining Council (PHSDSBC) whilst with Department of Health.

His passion for standing for and promoting social justice in the employment circles began at the early ages of his employment life as trade union activist and as HR Practitioner focusing on employee relations in the workplace. His industry class experience includes working experience and exposure in Education Leadership & Management; HRD; Skills Development; Employee Wellness; Performance Management & Labour Relations fields. His good knowledge of issues relating to enabling legislation and policies regulating employment development & employee relations in both public and higher education sectors sector have been a driving force for success. He had qualified as Mediator with Conflict Dynamics in 2017 and currently active SABPP Chartered HR Professional member.
