LETTER FROM THE VICE CHANCELLOR

I cannot believe how quickly this year is drawing to a close. At the same time, I am in awe of how much we have achieved. Just this month alone we launched an online Portuguese language learning course, we announced the SRC/CRC elections, hosted the 6th Archbishop Thabo Makgoba Development Trust Annual Lecture on Ethical and Moral Leadership.



UMP AND MPUMALANGA PROVINCIAL GOVERNMENT STRENGTHEN RELATIONS

On 15 October 2021, the newly appointed Mpumalanga Provincial Government Director General, Mr Makhukhu Mampuru, paid a courtesy visit to the University of Mpumalanga (UMP) to meet and greet the Vice-Chancellor, Professor Thoko Mayekiso and her management team.



AFRICAN HUMANISM, UJAMAA AND CONSCIENCISM

The University of Mpumalanga Community recently gathered at the Multi-purpose Hall at Mbombela campus for the 6th Archbishop Thabo Makgoba Development Trust (ATMDT) Annual Lecture on Ethical and Moral Leadership. Siyabuswa Campus Director, Dr Emmanuel Tshikwatamba delivered the keynote address.



UMP BRINGING 4IR SKILLS TO MATRICULANTS IN MPUMALANGA

Matriculants in the province now also stand to benefit from the University of Mpumalanga’s partnership with the National Electronic Media Institute of South Africa (NEMISA) through their new Mobile Digital Literacy course, which is specifically aimed at equipping high school learners with digital skills competence for sustainable socio-economic development in South Africa.



2021/2022 SRC/CRC ELECTIONS: MAKE YOUR VOICE COUNT!

The date for the election of the SRC/CRC is Friday 05 November 2021, as announced by UMP Vice-Chancellor, Professor Thoko Mayekiso.



UMP ADDS BACHELOR OF ARTS HONOURS IN PSYCHOLOGY

The Bachelor of Arts Honours in Psychology is a one year, full-time, 120 credit, NQF exit level 8 qualification, which includes compulsory and elective modules. It provides an important route for progression into further postgraduate studies (Master’s and Doctoral) for students who wish to continue with their studies at the University of Mpumalanga or elsewhere.



MPUMALANGA: A GATEWAY TO REGIONAL ECONOMIC INTEGRATION

According to Professor Andrew Maredza, Associate Professor Economics at the University of Mpumalanga, the province with nearly 4.7 million inhabitants, spread across 17 local municipalities, has the perfect logistical location.



UNIVERSITY AND CONVOCATION CRAFTING AN UPWARD TRAJECTORY

The recently elected Executive Committee Members of the UMP Convocation have embraced their new leadership roles and are preparing to embark on a journey that will see them engage and reignite the spirit of UMP alumni and other academics. The members are fired up to take the interests of the institution to greater heights.



NETBALL STAR LERATO BALOYI IS ON THE BALL

University of Mpumalanga BeD Foundation Phase Teaching student at the Siyabuswa campus, Lerato Baloyi, possesses prowess and eagerness on the court. The netball star is making waves after representing the institution as part of the under 19 Nkangala District Team. She also participated at the USSA Netball Telkom Junior Netball Championships.



NEW COURSE ALERT: BACHELOR OF ARTS IN INDUSTRIAL PSYCHOLOGY

The University of Mpumalanga is introducing a Bachelor of Arts in Industrial Psychology, which will prepare graduates to reflect on their own psychological and human resource management applications by assessing the effect thereof in the holistic context of Industrial Psychology within their everyday lives.



HONOURS STUDENT TURNS BUSINESS IDEA INTO PURPOSE

Honours in Development Studies student, Thuso Tshiloane is living up to UMP's graduate attributes of being innovative and entrepreneurial. He started a business that aims to address the accommodation shortage in the Mbombela area. The business of renting property and subleasing it to students has seen him realize his dream of filling the gap in the market while also providing other learners with a safe and decent place to stay.



UMP INTRODUCES POSTGRADUATE DIPLOMA IN INFORMATION AND COMMUNICATION TECHNOLOGY

The University of Mpumalanga School of Computing and Mathematical Sciences will from 2022 introduce a Postgraduate Diploma in Information and Communication Technology PGDip (ICT), which will enable graduates to acquire advanced knowledge and skills that will allow them to develop solutions for different industries, communities and for society.
