Nkambule is a testament that perseverance pays off. Starting as a first-year student, Nkambule faced transitional issues – from high school to university demanding a higher level of independence, critical thinking, and time management skills. That same year, in 2020 during the COVID-19 lockdown, she was robbed of the gadgets she used for online studying.
“I dropped out for about two months, saving money to buy at least a smartphone, which would allow me to continue with online schooling. Balancing coursework, assignments, and extracurricular activities was the most psychologically, academically, and financially challenging for me.”
As the firstborn child in the family, Nkambule felt a deep responsibility to set an example and pave the way for her siblings. "Dropping my studies was one big moment of doubt and uncertainty, but I refused to let setbacks define my journey.”
She mentions that UMP is a testament to these values, filled with lessons, challenges, and ultimately, triumphs. Instead of giving up, she found creative solutions to overcome those financial obstacles.
"To overcome the financial obstacles and help me stay on track towards my academic goals. I started a make-up business targeting my fellow students, and in 2023, I worked as a student mentor, both of which provided crucial support.
Nkambule overcame the hurdles and graduated Cum Laude.
Today, four years later, Nkambule graduated Cum Laude. Her journey through the University of Mpumalanga has been a transformative experience. She is filled with gratitude for the opportunities that have shaped her into the person she is today.
“My journey through the University of Mpumalanga has been a testament to the values of hard work, perseverance, and determination.”
Special thanks go to her lecturers, supervisors, friends, family, and mentors who have stood by her every step of the way. “I am filled with gratitude for the opportunities that have shaped me into the person I am today.”
