Student governance at the University of Mpumalanga is promoted and supported to ensure that the students of the University have a functional and effective system to represent and promote their aspirations and wellbeing. The governance of students is through the democratically elected student representatives. The Campus Representative Councils (CRCs) look after the interests of students at Campus level and they exist in each Campus. The institutional Student Representative Council (SRC) looks after the issues of students at the institutional level.
The Student Representative Council (SRC) is a democratically elected student representative structure in line with the Higher Education Act, no 101 of 1997, as amended, and the University of Mpumalanga Statute. The day-to-day functions of the SRC are run by the Executive Committee of the SRC, namely, the SRC President, the Deputy President, the Secretary General and the Treasurer.
The University Management holds a MANCO-SRC Gala Dinner annually. The dinner is a special function of Management and the SRC/CRCs at the end of the year. The dinner provides a platform where the University Management and the outgoing SRC and CRC members celebrate the time they have spent working together during the year. Management also uses this occasion to award certificates to the outgoing members of the SRC and CRCs for their work during their term of office. This event also includes the incoming SRC and CRC members so that they experience the appreciation of the good working relationship that is promoted between Management and the SRC.
