LETTER FROM THE VICE CHANCELLOR

On 15 July 2021 we held our second virtual graduation and though it would have been wonderful to have us all come together for our sixth graduation ceremony this year, the lockdown had other plans and as always, we just adjusted our sails and have been weathering this storm with great success.



MOMENT OF PRIDE AND ANTICIPATION

The University of Mpumalanga awarded/conferred a total of 647 students with qualifications in absentia during the sixth graduation ceremony, held virtually on 15 July 2021.



UMP FIRST MASTER’S DEGREE GRADUATE

Confidence Ndlovu makes history by becoming the first student to obtain a Master’s Degree from the University of Mpumalanga. Ndlovu completed her degree in Development Studies Cum Laude. She is the first in her family to obtain a Master’s Degree.



CHILOANE TWINS GRADUATE AT THE SAME TIME

Twins, Noncedo and Ncedile Chiloane, graduated from the University of Mpumalanga at the same time for their postgraduate qualifications.



SOUTH AFRICA IS RICH IN PLANTS USED FOR SKINCARE: RURAL WOMEN HELPED US DOCUMENT SOME

People have been using plants in skincare for thousands of years, for cleansing, perfuming, beautifying and healing. Today, plants contribute significantly to the cosmetic (beauty) and cosmeceutical (medicinal) industry, which is worth billions of dollars.



SIYABUSWA CAMPUS BASED BEd STUDENT COMPLETES DEGREE WITH 28 DISTINCTIONS

Bachelor of Education in Foundation Phase Teaching student, Vanessa Nkuna, is on top of the world and ready to serve her community as a teacher following her graduation with 28 distinctions from the University of Mpumalanga.



UMP GRADUATE TO LAUNCH MARKET TRADE APP

Sydwell Mazibuko, who recently graduated with a Diploma in Information Communication Technology in Application Development, is working on an e-commerce site called Varsity Market, an app that will assist student entrepreneurs in the business of trade to sell their goods at reasonable rates.



ORPHAN BECOMES THE FIRST TO GRADUATE IN HER FAMILY

Bachelor of Development Studies student, Beauty Makgeru, is the first in her family to graduate. Makgeru graduated in absentia on 15 July 2021 from the University of Mpumalanga. She completed her studies Cum Laude and also received the Vice-Chancellor's Excellence Award.



RESEARCH RECOMMENDS RECORD SYSTEM OVERHAUL

Dr Sidney Netshakhuma from the Office of the Registrar Archivist has obtained a PhD in Information Science from the University of South Africa. His research topic was: “A framework for Archives and Records Management Programme at Institution of Higher Learning in South Africa: University of Venda – University of Witwatersrand Comparison.”



CHRONIC ILLNESS DIDN’T DETER UMP STUDENT FROM GRADUATING

University of Mpumalanga Nature Conservation student, Mulaudzi Mulamuleli, graduated in absentia on 15 July 2021 after two chronic illnesses posed serious challenges to her being able reach her goal of completing her diploma.



FUNZA LUSHAKA FUNDED STUDENTS COME OUT TOPS

Four Bachelor of Education in Foundation Phase students from the Siyabuswa campus at the University of Mpumalanga completed their studies Cum Laude (with distinctions) at the virtual graduation ceremony, which took place on 15 July 2021.
