UNIVERSITY OF MPUMALANGA: STORY OF EXCELLENCE

The University of Mpumalanga celebrated a decade of academic endeavours with a ceremony that honoured the first Chairperson of the UMP Council, Professor David Mabunda, by conferring upon him the title of Professor Emeritus.



FIRST DIGITAL ISINDEBELE ON WIKIPEDIA

The University of Mpumalanga (UMP), Siyabuswa Campus, hosted a collaborative initiative by the South African Centre for Digital Language Resources (SADiLaR), the free encyclopedia Wikipedia, and the Pan South African Language Board (PanSALB) (SWiP).



UMP RESEARCHERS WORK ON GLOBAL LANDCOMP PROJECT

The University of Mpumalanga (UMP) research team, under the leadership of Dr Tatenda Dalu and Mr Linton Munyai from the Aquatic Systems Research Group, is collaborating with other researchers, led by Professor Christopher Swan from the University of Maryland, Baltimore County, on a global LandComp project with a network of more than 50 collaborators across the globe.

Bongani Sibuyi, an esteemed alumnus of the University of Mpumalanga (UMP), has been named Techpreneur of the Year by the renowned Founder of the Year Awards (FOYA) organization, which celebrates young entrepreneurs excelling in the realms of technology and entrepreneurship.

The University of Mpumalanga (UMP) athletics team displayed charisma and determination, securing 12 medals at the Mpumalanga Track and Field Championship recently held in Secunda.

The University of Mpumalanga (UMP) and the Department of Agriculture, Rural Development, Land, and Environmental Affairs (DARDLEA), in collaboration with the Water Research Commission Project, hosted a Food Security Farmers Day to empower Small-Scale farmers with the latest knowledge in farming.

University of Mpumalanga (UMP) Bachelor of Science Honours student, Sobahle Hlophe, is researching the decomposition rate of leaf litter, crucial for understanding nutrient cycling dynamics and estimating carbon sequestration rates in river systems.



UMP STUDENTS EXPLORE CHIMP EDEN CONSERVATION

As part of empowering students to become informed scholars and global citizens, and providing holistic education, the ​​​​​University of Mpumalanga (UMP) Culture and Heritage Studies Honours students, led by Dr Sibongile Masuku, recently visited Chimp Eden in the Umhloti Nature Reserve in Mbombela.
