Programme Description

This curriculum is designed to advance the skills of students who already have a qualification in agricultural production at NQF 6. The programme aims to provide further training and skills for students in agricultural production and management of animals, field and horticultural crops. The curriculum will further empower students with sound understanding and application of innovative agricultural practices including information communication technology as drive towards the fourth industrial revolution (4IR) as drivers to promoting increase and sustainable agricultural production, and guarantee food security. Moreover, the curriculum seeks to strengthen students’ knowledge on advanced concepts and scientific innovations of project management within agricultural systems. In addition, students are exposed to practical crop management through yearlong experiential learning module. This component of the curriculum allows students to improve on project planning, monitoring, problem solving, management, communication (writing and presenting), analysis, reflection, and understanding of the requirements for both local and international markets including global agricultural practices (Global GAP). Other specific objectives of the programme include: 
  • Understand the development, implementation and efficient management of  plant production systems in the context of developing innovative solutions to agricultural problems domestically and internationally
  • Understand the develop, implementation and efficient management of animal production systems in the context of developing innovative solutions to agricultural problems domestically and internationally Understand and apply the concepts, methods and tools of strategic management
  • Understand and apply the concepts, methods and tools of strategic management
  • Plan, implement, monitor and evaluate projects relevant to agricultural development (along the entire value chain)
  • Applying agricultural production management concepts, principles, methods and tools in a real-world production management setting
 

Admission Requirements

NQF level 6: Diploma or Bachelor degree in Agriculture or related field.
