Programme Description
The purpose of the Doctor of Philosophy (Commerce fields) at the University of Mpumalanga is to provide students with training for an academic career through the medium of an independent and original primary research project completed under supervision. This PhD programme focuses on a wider range of commerce fields including economics, entrepreneurship, business management, human resources management, marketing, accountancy, and others. On successful completion of the PhD, students will be able to undertake further independent original research at an advanced level and report on this to reflect independent thinking, originality, critical analysis, and advanced insight into the chosen field of research.
Duration
The duration of study for the Doctor of Philosophy (PhD) is two years (Fulltime) and three years (Part-time).
Admission Minimum Requirements
For 2024 research must be in Economics (CESM category 0404). The University will add further commerce fields of study as and when new fields of study are approved.
The minimum admission requirements for the PhD degree programme are:
- A relevant master`s degree (NQF level 9) with a pass of at least 60% in an appropriate commerce field.
- In 2024, the appropriate field of research must be economics and hence the applicant must hold a Master’s degree in Economics or a Master of Commerce degree with research in economics.
