Programme Description

The Bachelor of Arts degree is a three-year programme offered on a full-time basis. It provides students with a broad academic basis for students to gain a fuller understanding of the social world in which they live. It offers a flexible degree structure with a wide range of subjects that allow students more choice in the construction of their career path. Subjects that the student may choose from in a BA programme include amongst others: IsiNdebele, Siswati, English, Communication Studies, Portuguese, Geography, Tourism, Culture and Heritage Studies, Entrepreneurship, Economics, Psychology, Political Science, Industrial Psychology and Sociology. The degree requires students to choose three majors (specialised study taken to the third year). Upon its completion, students may proceed to post-graduate studies which offer increased depth and specialisation in the majority of subjects offered. Our talented pool of academics, researchers and administrators are always ready to assist students in every way possible.
 
 

Admission Requirements

  • Grade 12 Bachelor university entrance with a minimum APS of 28 or above or equivalent.
  • English level 4; Maths level 2 / Maths literacy level 3

A Bachelor of Arts degree prepares students for a large range of jobs. It gives students many different skills: among others, Teaching, Research, Academics, Writer, Editing, Language experts, Language technologists, Lexicography, Translators, Creative writing or copywriting, publishing, Social media managers or Public Relations officers, Advertising, Subject Advisory, Broadcasting, Journalism, Policy Advisor, TV or Radio presenter, Storytelling, Public servants, Entrepreneurs, Business, Administrators, Fundraisers, Human Resources Specialists, Psychologist, Archaeologist, Sociologist, Tourism managers, Learning and development managers, Heritage practitioner, Museologist and Cultural Expert.
 

Curriculum & Credits

The BA degree is conferred after a minimum of 360 credits. Students are allowed to design their own combination of modules and majors from the table below. In choosing modules and majors, students should think of their intellectual interests and career goals and therefore should select modules that will provide them with a solid foundation in those areas.

First year level  (see table 1 below)
Select 10 modules: 5 modules per semester (at 12 credits per module = 120 credits for 10 modules).

Second year Level (see table 2 below)
Select 4 modules per semester (at 15 credits per module = 120 credits for 8 modules)

At third year level (see table 3 below)
Select 3 modules per semester (20 credits per module = 120)
