Faculty of Agriculture and Natural Sciences
Welcome Message from the Dean of Faculty of Agriculture and Natural Sciences
Prof Ndiko Ludidi
The Faculty of Agriculture and Natural Sciences (FANS) trains aspiring scientists and provides a conducive environment to develop lifelong learning skills that are adaptable in different application contexts. It seeks to facilitate quality teaching and learning in Agricultural and Natural Sciences, using the latest tools, facilities, and human resources to produce relevant and inspirational students who value excellence, integrity, diversity, and collaboration in achieving their common goals to attain high academic standards. In so doing, the FANS develops students in scientific skills through teaching and learning, research and scholarship, and engagement in collaboration with industry as strategic partners.
The above is achieved by employing the skills and knowledge of accomplished research scientists who are mostly NRF rated and on top of their game. The faculty currently offers 33 qualifications in four schools, namely, School of Agricultural Sciences, Computing and Mathematical Sciences, Biology and Environmental Sciences, and Chemical and Physical Sciences. The qualifications on offer, in 2022 onwards, range from Higher Certificate (in ICT End User) to Doctor of Philosophy (PhD). A true reflection of a PQM of a Comprehensive University that UMP encompasses. This represents a tremendous growth from where the FANS was in a few years ago in terms of programs, students, and academic staff.
