Mr. Thabo Dikgale
Director: International Partnerships & Networks

Dear Colleagues and Partners

The University of Mpumalanga (UMP) extends a warm welcome to you. At UMP, our vision is to be an African university leading in creating opportunities for sustainable development through innovation. The mission commits us to delivering quality education, advancing research and innovation, and building partnerships that contribute meaningfully to sustainable societal and economic transformation.

Guided by the principle of access for success, UMP fosters a supportive and inclusive learning environment that promotes positive student experiences and successful outcomes. The University cultivates a conducive institutional ecology and an enabling teaching and research environment, ensuring that teaching and research are of high quality and generate meaningful impact.

Within this framework, the International Partnerships and Networks Directorate (IPND) serves as a strategic enabler of student success and staff development. The Directorate cultivates purposeful, mutually beneficial partnerships with universities, industry, government, embassies, and communities, both locally and globally, in order to expand opportunities for UMP staff, students and the community we serve. These partnerships facilitate student mobility, collaborative research opportunities, internships, work-integrated learning, mentorship, cultural exchange, and global exposure.

Through internationalisation initiatives and strategic higher education partnerships and networks, IPND enhances the quality of the student experience by broadening academic horizons, strengthening employability, and developing intercultural competence. These collaborations are not ends in themselves, rather, they are mechanisms meant to enrich teaching and learning, strengthen research capacity and capabilities, and contribute to sustainable socio-economic development in the Mpumalanga Province and the country.

By building strong partnerships and networks across Africa, the Global South, and the broader international community, we aim to position UMP as a catalyst for innovation, knowledge exchange, and sustainable development.

We invite all stakeholders to partner with UMP in shaping a globally connected university that drives sustainable socio-economic development and long-term prosperity for our province and our country.
