Bachelor of Administration
Programme Description
The Bachelor of Administration Degree is designed to develop skills and competencies of students to prepare them for a career in the public sector, parastatals, trade unions, non-governmental organisations, private sector and academic careers at the high education institutions. The programme also enables students to develop in-depth, advanced discipline-specific skills and applied competence that will provide them with opportunities for intellectual personal growth, more purposeful employment and the ability to make a meaningful contribution to the society.
The Bachelor of Administration Degree is a three (3) year qualification with 360 credits and NQF level seven (7). The programme develops students to think critically and apply their utmost analytical skills and knowledge to resolve challenges. On completion of the Degree, students will help the society (Public and Private Sector) with the necessary skills to address challenges faced by institutions. Learned theories will be translated into practical realities, public affairs challenges will be identified and with graduate learning toward the solving of such challenges. Ethical and professional standards in the workplace will be promoted. Graduates will be objective when managing public affairs. Graduates will also effectively promote the culture of consultation with various stakeholders in the public sector environment
Admission Requirements
- National Senior Certificate;
- Admission Point Score (APS) of 32;
- Mathematics: Level 2 (30-39%). Mathematical Literacy: Level 3 (40-49%);
- English (Home or First Additional Language): Level 4 (50-59%);
- Second language: Level 4 (50-59%; and
Students who wish to take Economics as an elective must have Mathematics: Level 4 (50-59%)
Career Opportunities
A B Admin gives you an opportunity to study the general degree initially before choosing your stream or major. This allows you to know where your strengths are and what stream or major interests you the most. A B Admin degree is a great degree to prepare you to work in the public or the private administration sector and equips you to work for a company or as an entrepreneur. Career opportunities are not limited and that means that you have many opportunities as a B Admin graduate. These career opportunities include, inter alia Local Authority Manager; Senior Government Official, Human resource personnel, Government jobs and Entrepreneurs managing own businesses. Students who successfully complete the B Admin will also able to apply for admission into B Admin Honours programmes at UMP or other tertiary institutions.
