The start of the academic year gives us a chance to reset our buttons, especially after a break that allowed us to reflect and rethink who we are: our purpose, passion, our plans and where we are headed, and the difference we want to see in the world.



WARM WELCOME FOR FIRST-YEAR STUDENTS

The University of Mpumalanga (UMP) hosted a very successful week-long orientation programme. Set to familiarise new students with various aspects surrounding the institution and its processes, it also equipped them with the necessary tools to enjoy an overall better student experience.

During a recent seminar held at the Mbombela campus of the University of Mpumalanga (UMP), Professor Dovhani Thakhathi defined emotional intelligence as a peaceful dialogue, where leaders have to remain calm, talk well, and manage emotions.

The University of Mpumalanga (UMP) has appointed a new geology lecturer, Dr Xolane Mhlanga. He brings with him vast academic and research experience, which will empower students to become skilled geological scientists capable of solving fundamental research questions through innovative approaches.

University of Mpumalanga (UMP) postgraduate student, Nombuso Themba, was privileged to attend the National Research Fund’s South African Institute for Aquatic Biodiversity (NRF-SAIAB) summer school, which aims to bridge the gap between theoretical and experiential learning for second, third year and honours students.
