LETTER FROM THE VICE CHANCELLOR

It feels much like the merry month of May, as we had much to celebrate during this time. On 13 and 14 May 2022 we held in person graduation ceremonies to celebrate the remarkable achievements of students who had successfully completed their qualifications during the past academic year. An amazing total of 1 112 students were awarded/conferred qualifications during the seventh graduation ceremony which was held in the Multi-Purpose Hall at the Mbombela Campus. Our Chancellor, Justice Maya officiated on 13 May 2022.



UMP HOSTS SEVENTH GRADUATION CEREMONY

On 13 and 14 May, the University of Mpumalanga (UMP) held graduation ceremonies to celebrate the achievements of students who have completed their qualifications during the past academic year. UMP AFRICA DAY DIALOGUE

Three University of Mpumalanga academics: Culture and Heritage lecturer Ms Thulisile Bhuda, Political Studies lecturer Dr Sifiso Ndlovu and Research Professor of Education, Prof Sechaba, engaged in an Africa Day dialogue on @RISEfm943 under the theme: Celebrating Diversity: Showcasing our Africaness.



MSc GRADUATE DEDICATES HIS SUCCESS TO LATE MOM

University of Mpumalanga (UMP) PhD student Nicholus Mnyambo, who graduated his MSc in Agriculture Cum Laude during the 2022 graduation ceremony held at Mbombela Campus, dedicated his success to his late mom for the role she played in ensuring that he gets an education.



BIG TURN OUT AT THE 2022 OPEN DAY

Grade 11 and 12 learners from different schools across the province recently attended an insightful Open Day at the University of Mpumalanga (UMP). Hosted in the Multi-Purpose Hall at the Mbombela campus, learners were afforded the opportunity to learn more about the various programmes on offer at UMP, to learn more about the available sporting activities, see the facilities, meet potential future classmates, and learn how to apply.



BEST FRIENDS BOUND TO ACHIEVE GREATNESS

Best friends and Bachelor of Science in Agriculture graduates, Thobile Mkhwanazi and Rivoningo Ubisi, have a lot in common. Both are recipients of the Vice-Chancellor’s Scholarship and have achieved their degrees Cum Laude – with 19 distinctions each. They are also both pursuing their Master of Science in Agriculture degrees at UMP and want to pursue their doctoral degrees in agriculture.



UMP HONOURS TOP ACHIEVERS

The University of Mpumalanga (UMP) honoured some of its most outstanding students during the Academic Excellence Awards at an event recently held at the Mbombela campus.



MEMBER OF PARLIAMENT RECEIVES HONOURS FROM UMP

Member of Parliament, Honourable Timothy Mashele, recently graduated with a Bachelor of Developmental Studies Honours degree from the University of Mpumalanga (UMP). He received his degree during the seventh graduation ceremony held at the Mbombela campus.



UMP CELEBRATES ENACTUS SUCCESS

The University of Mpumalanga (UMP) celebrated the success of the ENACTUS team for their stellar performance during the 2021 competitions, proving that the university is committed to developing and implementing sustainable programmes for local communities.



EDUCATION A TICKET OUT OF POVERTY FOR UMP GRADUATE

University of Mpumalanga (UMP) Bachelor of Education (Bed) graduate, Busisiwe Ntimba, who completed her degree Cum Laude with 27 distinctions at the 2022 graduation ceremony says education was her only ticket out of poverty.



UMP VOLLEYBALL TEAMS MAKE HISTORY

The University of Mpumalanga (UMP) volleyball team made history when they beat North West University (NWU) and Sefako Makgatho Health Sciences University (SMU) for the first time since the institution was established.



UMP CELEBRATES AFRICA DAY

The University of Mpumalanga (UMP) celebrated Africa Day under the theme Celebrating Diversity: Showcasing our Africanness, with several activities held at Mbombela on 25 May and Siyabuswa campus, on 27 May.



UMP HOLDS TREE-PLANTING CEREMONY

The University of Mpumalanga (UMP) held a tree-planting ceremony at its Mbombela Campus on May 13, 2022. The tree-planting ceremony, which was in honour of the recently appointed UMP Chancellor, Judge Mandisa Maya, was attended by several dignitaries including UMP Vice-Chancellor Professor Thoko Mayekiso, UMP Chairperson of Council Professor David Mabunda and several UMP Management members.
