LETTER FROM THE VICE CHANCELLOR

This month our institution has been bustling with activity – from winning awards to hosting a series of events. Some of the highlights include the South African Union of Students (SAUS) National General Council (NGC), which was held at the Mbombela campus, where Minister of Higher Education, Science and Technology delivered his keynote address.



'ETHICAL LEADERSHIP REQUIRES US TO PROTECT OUR CONSTITUTIONAL DEMOCRACY,' – UMP CHANCELLOR

To build society confidence, restore law and order and instil humanity, the different arms of government must work together to protect the citizens and their constitutional rights, said University of Mpumalanga (UMP) Chancellor and Deputy Chief Justice, Mandisa Maya, during her delivery of the 7th Archbishop Thabo Makgoba Development Trust (ATDT) Annual Lecture on Ethical and Moral Leadership, at the Mbombela Campus.



UMP WINS PRESTIGIOUS STANDARD BANK AWARD

The University of Mpumalanga (UMP) has done it again: the institution won the Top Women Business Icons 2022 An Honorary Legends of Empowerment and Transformation Award at the 2022 Standard Bank Top Women Awards, recently held at Emperor’s Palace in Gauteng.



UMP BIDS FAREWELL TO OUTGOING 2022 SRC

The University of Mpumalanga (UMP) hosted a gala dinner to bid farewell to the outgoing 2022 SRC/CRC. At the event held at the Mbombela Campus, the Vice-Chancellor, Professor Thoko Mayekiso said: "You showed outstanding, exemplary leadership and you have our hearty congratulations for remaining resolute and unwavering in your leadership."



INNOVATIVE YOUNG RESEARCHER WANTS TO CONTRIBUTE TO GLOBAL TRANSFORMATION

University of Mpumalanga (UMP) newly appointed lecturer at the School of Biology and Environmental Sciences, Linton Munyai says South Africa’s existing environmental problems need immediate attention and proper interventions before the country suffers irreparable environmental damage.



UMP STUDENT ENTREPRENEURS REACH INTERVASITY 2022 FINALS

The University of Mpumalanga (UMP), through the Centre for Entrepreneurship Rapid Incubator (UMP CFERI), is making great strides in producing student entrepreneurs. Just recently, three students: Jessica Steyn, Ngthabiseng Mpanza and Penwell Silinda participated in the EDHE Entrepreneurship Intervarsity 2022 finals, which were held in Gauteng.



UMP APPOINTS DIRECTOR: ACADEMIC PLANNING AND QUALITY ASSURANCE

The University of Mpumalanga (UMP) is pleased to welcome Dr Madoda Makola, Director: Academic Planning and Quality Assurance, who joins the university following a long career spanning more than 20 years with various institutions across South Africa.



UMP SPORTSMAN OF THE YEAR’S RACE TO SUCCESS

University of Mpumalanga (UMP) first-year Bachelor of Administration student and athlete, Mfungelwa Sibusiso Gule, recently crowned Sportsman of the Year at the 2022 Co-curricular Awards, is committed and dedicated to becoming an elite athlete who will one day represent South Africa at the Olympics.



UMP STUDENTS EXPERIENCE AUSTRALIAN CULTURE AND LEARNING

The University of Mpumalanga’s (UMP) collaboration with the Western Sydney University (WSU), which was signed in 2019, has afforded three SRC members: Mr Bathini Madinawe (President), Ms Fezeka Bujela (Academic Officer), and Ms Thandi Mafu (Social and Transformation Officer) the opportunity to visit the Australian university as part of creating opportunities to develop student leaders.
