Programme Description
The BA honours in Gender Studies programme is a 1 year full-time, 120 credits and NQF exit level 8 qualification which includes compulsory and elective modules. It provides an important route for progression into Master’s and Doctoral studies. The BA Honours in Gender Studies programme is transdisciplinary and draws students from across various disciplines including Agriculture, Social Sciences, Development Studies and more. The programme equips students with in-depth knowledge on gender theories, praxis as well as feminist-based research methodology.
Gender Studies focuses on gender awareness and analysis of the human social relationships, cultures, violence and institutions that profoundly shape both our lives and human history. The feminist research methodology can inform policy and development strategies specific to the province, country, and continent. The qualification further provides students with skills to apply the acquired knowledge to solve complex gender-based problems in contemporary societies. It also provides students with the understanding on how gender operates within systems and institutions to create imbalances of power. Upon successful completion of the programme, students are expected to have gained advanced academic knowledge, higher thinking, analytical and problem-solving skills in the field of Gender.
Admission Requirements
To be admitted to the BA Honours in Gender Studies programme a student should have a:
- Any bachelor’s degree with a minimum average of 60% at the third year level is required for admission.
