The University of Mpumalanga (UMP) Strategic Plan, designated as UMP Vision 2022 served as a guide for the strategic direction of the University in the last seven years (2015-2022). UMP consulted widely with internal and external stakeholders on the process of developing UMP Vision 2022 and as a result, this approach has proven to be a success.

Therefore, UMP has taken a decision to develop a new strategy that will guide its direction for the next seven years. In the development of the new strategy, the University will consult widely and with selected stakeholders to ensure that the strategy takes into consideration inputs from key stakeholders.

To ensure that the process of development the new strategic plan is all inclusive, several stakeholders will be consulted. Internal stakeholders include the Chancellor, Council, the Vice-Chancellor, MANCO, EMANCO, Staff Members, Institutional Forum, SRC, CRC, Recognised Labour Unions and Convocation. The University will also consult with external stakeholders ranging from Mpumalanga Provincial Government and Organised Business formations.

The process of consulting stakeholders started in April 2022 through workshops that were held with representatives from internal stakeholders. The engagements with internal stakeholders are continuing as part of phase 1 of the strategic plan development. The consultations with various stakeholders will be done through interviews, focus groups, surveys, and online communities. Stakeholders are urged to participate in the process of developing the new strategic plan as the plan will add value towards achieving the Vision and Mission of the University of Mpumalanga.
