Graduation highlights included the awarding of 25 different qualifications, six of which were awarded/conferred for the first time in 2022. 15 Master's degrees were awarded/conferred. 40 students had been awarded/conferred their qualifications with a Cum Laude (distinction). 33 recipients of the Vice-Chancellor's Scholarship graduated. 13 students were the recipients of the Academic Excellence Awards that were awarded on 13 May 2022 at a Gala Dinner held at the Conference and Wellness Centre at the Mbombela Campus. 30 new recipients of the Vice-Chancellor Scholarship were officially awarded the Scholarship at this event. We are very proud of the academic achievements of our students.
I am also pleased to report that we are not only doing well in the academic arena, but on the sports field as well. This is in line with the holistic development of the students. The UMP Volleyball team made history when they beat North West University and Sefako Makgatho University for the first time since the institution was establised. They narrowly lost an epic clash against the University of Lesotho.
We held a celebratory function to honour the achievements of the UMP ENACTUS team in 2021. Once more, the ENACTUS team made us proud by winning six trophies.
UMP celebrated Africa Day at the Mbombela Campus on 25 May 2022 and on 27 May 2022 at the Siyabuswa. Our celebrations this year were focused on showcasing Morocco; Democratic Republic of Congo; Rwanda; Kenya; Senegal and Lesotho. A word of appreciation goes to all the members of staff and students who made the celebrations of our africanness and africanity, resounding success.
Let me take this opportunity to wish our students all the best in the examinations.
