I’d like to extend a hearty welcome back to all returning staff and students, prospective students and our new staff members. 2020 had very many lessons to teach us and these have prepared us well for whatever 2021 may throw our way.

The University of Mpumalanga (UMP) hopes to reach new heights with the appointment of its new Deputy Vice Chancellor: Teaching and Learning, Professor Shirley Mthethwa Sommers.



UMP LECTURER WRITES CHILDREN’S BOOK IN ISINDEBELE

University of Mpumalanga (UMP) Culture and Heritage lecturer Ms Thulisile Bhuda has penned a children’s book about Ndebele mural art as a way of language preservation and development for young ones. Ms Bhuda says the book aims to inspire children as it is based on their real-life journeys. It is also a way of sharing knowledge with the younger generation.



UMP TOURISM AND HERITAGE LECTURER MAKES HISTORY

University of Mpumalanga (UMP) lecturer, Dr Precious Shabalala has made history by becoming the first New Generation of Academics Programme (nGAP) scholar at UMP to finish and graduate with a PhD. Dr Shabalala recently graduated from the University of the Witwatersrand (Wits).



'RESEARCH AWARD WILL OPEN MORE DOORS' – PROF MBENG

University of Mpumalanga (UMP) newly appointed Associate Professor in Botany, Professor Wilfred Mbeng from the Faculty of Agriculture and Natural Sciences recently received the Faculty Researcher award for his work on Indigenous Knowledge Systems, Medicinal Plants and Cosmeceuticals.



UMP STUDENT EMPOWERS UNEMPLOYED YOUTHS WITH DIGITAL SKILLS

University of Mpumalanga (UMP) Diploma in Information and Communication Technology in Applications Development student, Armstrong Makome is among the group that facilitated the UMP Colab, which has empowered unemployed youths from neighbouring communities.



UMP LECTURER OBTAINS MASTER'S TO KEEP ABREAST WITH EDUCATION TRENDS

University of Mpumalanga (UMP) Education Studies Lecturer and Work Integrated Learning (WIL) Coordinator Ms Lindiwe Jiyane recently obtained her Master’s Degree in Education from the University of Johannesburg.
