Programme Description

The Bachelor of Education Honours in Teaching and Learning degree gives teachers a basis for further study and research, enabling them to build on their first degree and experience. Their knowledge on teaching and learning, curriculum development, leadership, management and contemporary education practice would be developed and consolidated. Theories of education, teaching methodologies and transformation of education contexts would form the basis for transformed teachers pursuing further study to better inform their practice. The qualification would demand a high level of engagement and intellectual independence. The Faculty of Education commits to the maxim that to teach is to lead. This initial post-graduate Honours degree is a step towards developing teachers as leaders in the classroom and in society. The graduate qualifies to read for an M Ed degree and could progress further into becoming lecturers. They will have potential to engage in occupations that focus on their specialisation areas.
