  • South African Higher Education Community Engagement Forum Conference 2 - 6 December 2019
  • The University hosted the 2019 South African Higher Education Community Engagement Forum (SAHECEF) Conference under the Theme: Re-imagining Higher Education through Community Engagement. The Conference was held from 2 to 6 December 2019 at the Mbombela Campus.

  • Launch of the 25 Year Review Report “Towards the 25 Year Review 1994 - 2019” by the Chancellor, the President of the Republic of South Africa, Hon Mr Cyril Ramaphosa that was held on Friday, 8 Nov
  • The University hosted the Launch of the “Towards a 25 Year Review Report” of the 25 Years of Freedom in South Africa from 1994 to 2019, by the President of the Republic of South Africa, Hon Mr Cyril Ramaphosa, who is also the Chancellor of the University of Mpumalanga. The launch was held on Friday, 8 November 2019 at the Mbombela Campus of UMP.  

  • Archbishop Thabo Makgoba Development Trust Annual Lecture on Ethical and Moral Leadership presented by Professor Joseph Diescho on 15 October 2019
  • The University of Mpumalanga in partnership with the Archbishop Thabo Makgoba Development Trust (ATMDT) held the 4th Annual Lecture on 15 October 2019 at the University of Mpumalanga, Mbombela Campus. Archbishop Thabo Makgoba and his wife, Lungi Makgoba, through the Archbishop Thabo Makgoba Development Trust (ATMDT) donated money to the University of Mpumalanga to be invested and the interest accrued be used for the Lecture Series and to purchase a prize for a final year student of the University who will win an essay competition on best practices on ethical and moral leadership. The guest speaker of the 2019 Annual Lecture was Professor Joseph Diescho. The Lecture was attended by members of the University Management, staff and students from the University, the Clergy, members of the community, and, more importantly, by the Archbishop Thabo Makgoba.

  • An Afrocentric Response to Calls for a Decolonised and Re-Africanised Education. Public Lecture by Professor Molefi Kete Asante held on 30 September 2019
  • The University held a Public Lecture on: An Afrocentric Response To Calls for a Decolonised and Re-Africanised Education. The Lecture was held at the Mbombela Campus on 30 September 2019. The lecture was delivered by Professor Molefi Kete Asante. Prof Asante is renowned internationally for his scholarship in the broad domain of Afrocentrism. As an African University, the University of Mpumalanga staff and students got an opportunity to familiarize themselves with the discourses that relate to the UMP’s identity as an institution. The lecture was a huge success.

  • Ray Phiri Memorial Lecture
  • The MEC for finance, economic development & tourism Mr. Petrus Ngomane, the executive chairman of harmocept in collaboration with the university of mpumalanga cordially invite you to the second Ray Phiri Memorial Lecture

    The lecture will be delivered by Professor Patrick Loch Otieno Lumumba, a Director of the Kenya School of Laws an Author and former Director of Kenya Anti-Corruption Commision.

     
  • 2nd Ray Phiri Annual Memorial Lecture presented by Professor Patrick Lumumba on 5 September 2019
  • The Mpumalanga Department of Finance, Economic Development and Tourism together with the Mpumalanga Tourism and Parks Agency and the University of Mpumalanga hosted the 2nd Ray Phiri Memorial Lecture which was held at the University of Mpumalanga, Mbombela Campus on 5 September 2019. The Lecture was delivered by Professor Patrick Loch Otieno Lumumba, a renowned African Scholar and Author from Kenya.

  • South African Chapter of the International Association of Women Judges Conference
  • The South African Chapter of the International Association of Women Judges, in collaboration with the University of Mpumalanga, hosted the 15th Annual Conference with the theme: Women empowerment – A shawl and a shield in the fight against sexual and gender-based violence. The Conference was held from 8 to10 August 2019 at the University of Mpumalanga, Mbombela Campus, Nelspruit, Mpumalanga, South Africa.

  • Official Opening of the ICT Building (academic) by the Honourable Deputy Minister for Telecommunications and Postal Services, Ms Pinky Kekana on 26 May 2019
  • The new iconic and state of the art ICT Building was officially opened by the Honourable Deputy Minister for Telecommunications and Postal Services, Ms Pinky Kekana, on 26 May 2019. The event was attended by members of Management, staff, students, and representatives from local IT businesses. The official opening of the ICT Building as held during the UMP Mobile Learning Week Seminar that was held from 22 to 26 April 2019.

  • South African Association of Public Administration and Management 19th Annual Conference co-hosted in collaboration with UMP on 14-17 May 2019
  • The South African Association of Public Administration and Management (SAAPAM), in collaboration with the University of Mpumalanga hosted the 19th Annual Conference at the University of Mpumalanga, Mbombela Campus, Nelspruit, Mpumalanga, South Africa on 14-17 May 2019. The Theme of the Conference was: Public Affairs, Governance and the Fourth Industrial Revolution.

  • The Academic Excellence Awards on 10 May and the 4th UMP Graduation Ceremony held on 11 May 2019
  • The University hosted the 2019 Academic Excellence Awards function on 10 May 2019 at the Mbombela Campus. The University recognised and awarded students who have excelled academically. Twelve students received awards in the following categories: First Diploma Awards; First Degree Awards; Advanced Diploma Award; HL Hall Gold Medal Award; SANLAM Award; Keni Foundation Award; and the Vice-Chancellor Awards.

  • Gender Based Violence Dialogue hosted by the Honourable Deputy Minister for Higher Education and Training, Mr Buti Manamela on 25 April 2019
  • The Deputy Minister of Higher Education and Training, Mr Buti Manamela, in collaboration with Higher Health (former HEAIDS) and the University of Mpumalanga hosted the Gender Based Violence Dialogue and First Things First Activation at the Mbombela Campus on 25 April 2019. The event was attended by students, staff, officials from the DHET, HEAIDS, TVET Colleges, other Universities and stakeholders.
  • Official Opening of the Library and Information Services Building by the Honourable Minister for Higher Education and Training, Dr Naledi Pandor on 15 April 2019
  • The official opening of the Library and Information Services Building of the University of Mpumalanga was held at the University’s Mbombela Campus on 15 April 2019. The Library and Information Services Building was officially opened by the then Minister of Higher Education and Training Dr Naledi Pandor. The function was also attended by the Chairperson of the University Council, Prof David Mabunda.
