Dr Terence Suinyuy
Dr Terence Suinyuy joined UMP in 2020 and is a Senior Lecturer in the School of Biology and Environmental Sciences in the Faculty of Agriculture and Natural Sciences. Dr Suinyuy’s research interests are in the interface of biodiversity conservation, ecology and evolution, plant-animal (pollination, herbivory, frugivory, dispersal), and plant-microbe interactions. His focus is on seeking to inform conservation decisions in natural and threatened ecosystems, support sustainable food systems, and to understand and provide nature-based solutions in natural, agricultural and degraded landscapes. To achieve this, Dr Suinyuy has established collaborations with national and international researchers with whom they have jointly supervised 24 undergraduate (fourth year and Honours) and 19 postgraduate (MSc and PhD) students' research. He has also participated as a peer reviewer for several journal articles and NRF proposals, and he has presented at several national and international conferences. He is a member of the International Union for Conservation of Nature (IUCN) Species Survival Commission (SSC) – Cycad Specialist Group (CSG). This body advises the IUCN on the state of cycads in the world. Dr Suinyuy’s teaching experience includes ecology modules such as Savanna Ecology, Fire Ecology, Global Change and Biodiversity Conservation, and Natural Resource Management.
