UMP RECOGNISES ACADEMIC EXCELLENCE

The University of Mpumalanga (UMP) recently hosted the 2022 Engagement, Research, and Teaching and Learning Awards, the aim of which is to promote, recognise, and reward excellence in engagement, and to promote the integration of teaching and learning, research, and engagement.



UMP AWARDS LONG-SERVICE EMPLOYEES

University of Mpumalanga Vice-Chancellor, Professor Thoko Mayekiso, honoured and paid tribute to one of the institution's most valuable assets: its long-service employees who leave a lasting footprint on the institution and the lives of its community members.



UMP ROOTED IN AFRICAN VALUES, CULTURE AND LANGUAGES

University of Mpumalanga (UMP) Deputy Vice-Chancellor (DVC): Teaching and Learning, Professor Shirley Sommers, shared the institution’s journey in the context of the African Languages agenda at a colloquium spearheaded by Universities South Africa’s Community of Practice for the Teaching and Learning of African Languages (CoPAL).



PROF MLAMBO AWARDED NRF-RATED RESEARCHER OF THE YEAR

National Research Foundation (NRF) rated researcher and programme leader at the Faculty of Agriculture and Natural Sciences at the University of Mpumalanga (UMP), Professor Victor Mlambo, was recently honoured with the NRF-rated Researcher of the Year award at the 2022 Engagement, Research and Teaching and Learning Awards.



UNIVERSITY OF MPUMALANGA RECORDS POSITIVE GROWTH

The Evaluation Study findings on the impact of the University of Mpumalanga’s 2015-2022 strategic plan has found that the institution has made great strides in all strategic areas.



FEMALE STUDENT RESIDENCE WINS ‘BUILDING OF THE YEAR’ AWARD

University of Mpumalanga (UMP) Building 7, which houses female students on the Mbombela campus, came out tops for the seventh consecutive year at the 2022 Co-curricular Awards.



UMP n-GAP LECTURER BAGS PHD AT 29

University of Mpumalanga (UMP) nGAP lecturer in Social Sciences, cultural activist and Ndebele historian, Dr Thulisile Monicca Bhuda has added a Doctoral Degree to her list of many accomplishments. She obtained her PhD in Indigenous Knowledge Systems from North-West University (NWU) in November 2022.



UMP STUDENT LIVING POSITIVELY WITH DISABILITY

As the world celebrated International Day of Persons with Disabilities on 3 December, University of Mpumalanga (UMP) postgraduate student, Nelisiwe Ngomane, shares how the university changed her outlook from feeling suicidal and being in denial, to accepting her disability and embracing life to the fullest.



DR OGUJIUBA IS UMP'S RESEARCHER OF THE YEAR

University of Mpumalanga (UMP) Senior lecturer in the Faculty of Economics, Development and Business Studies, and Manager of the UMP Entrepreneurship Rapid Incubator Centre (CFERI), Dr Kanayo Ogujiuba has been recognised as the Researcher of the Year at the 2022 Excellence in Engagement, Research, and Teaching and Learning Awards.



IDIA 2022 CONFERENCE ADDRESSES THE DIGITAL DIVIDE

The University of Mpumalanga (UMP) School of Computing and Mathematical Sciences and the University of Johannesburg (UJ) Department Applied Information Systems recently co-hosted the 12th International Development Information Association (IDIA) Conference in Mbombela.
