Mr Moses Sithole

Mr Moses Sithole is a Lecturer in the School of Agricultural Sciences, FANS, UMP. He recently graduated from the UMP Prestigious and Flagship Programme, the Academic Talent Stewardship Programme (ATSP), where he served as both an ATSP Fellow and an Associate Lecturer. He is an Agricultural Extension Education Specialist by training, with a Master of Agriculture in Agricultural Extension, Bachelor of Agriculture Honours degree (Cum Laude), Bachelor of Agriculture in Agricultural Extension and Rural Resources Management degree, all obtained at the University of Mpumalanga. He is currently pursuing PhD studies in Agriculture, with research focus on the Cost-Benefits of Livelihood Diversification Strategies for Poverty Alleviation among Smallholder Farmers. His research focus is on Agricultural Extension Education, Natural Resources Conservation, Rural Development, Effective and Efficient use of Rural Resources, Food Security, Poverty Alleviation, Rural Economic Development and Climate Change in the context of Smallholder Farmers and Rural Farming Families. And as an emerging researcher, has published 19 peer reviewed papers.
 
He is currently the Chairperson of the Engagement Committee in the School of Agricultural Sciences, Member of the FANS Engagement Committee, and Member of the Co-Curricular Awards Adjudication Committee within the UMP. Beyond his Teaching responsibilities at the University, He is actively involved in the First Year Experience (FYE) Programme and supervises about 13 (in 2025) FYE Mentors (Seniors Students – LLB) who play a huge role in the transition of the First Year Students within the UMP. He serves in Council now as the Academic Representative, after having previously served in Council during his tenure as SRC President of the UMP in the 2017 academic year. When he was in the SRC he served not only in Council, but also in the UMP SENATE, Institutional Forum, Transformation Committee, and the Student Support Services Committee. He served as the Deputy President of the UMP Convocation and was elected to represent the UMP Convocation in Council in 2021. He served as a Tutor, Mentor, Health Peer Mentor for several years, which served as a strong foundation for experience gained over the years.
