To remind students of the benefits of a healthy lifestyle, the University of Mpumalnga (UMP) hosted a Student Wellness Day. on August 6, 2015. The event which took place at the University’s Marapyane Site of Delivery.
One of the activities of the event was the health talk for the students given by the Department of Health. Students were given information on health as well as an opportunity to ask questions during the session.
The session also included a brief presentation from New Start and the Department of Health on pre-and post-counselling on HIV and AIDS. New Start is South Africa’s largest non profit HIV prevention programme and offers a comprehensive package of HIV counselling and testing; medical male circumcision and health communications. During the New Start and the Department of Health session, students had the opportunity to check their HIV status.
The event was certainly a success with a great number of students actively looking for information and eagerly participating in the event’s activities.
