This appointment recognises Dr Masuku’s extensive expertise and leadership in the fields of heritage and culture, as well as her experience in the environmental and conservation sectors.
With SANParks’ Vision 2040 strategy focusing on inclusive and collaborative approaches to reimagining South Africa’s protected areas, her contribution will be instrumental in advancing conservation, tourism, and socio economic development nationally.
Announcing the appointment, the Minister highlighted that, as one of the key drivers of South Africa’s conservation and economic development through tourism, jobs, and business opportunities, the governance of National Parks remains a critical function.
This appointment comes as SANParks unveils its Vision 2040 strategy – a Board led, inclusive process of reimagining and co creating a new future for conservation. The strategy seeks to shape a new vision for the country’s protected areas through meaningful public participation and collaborative stewardship.
Dr Masuku has built a distinguished career and is widely recognised as one of South Africa and the SADC region’s leading experts in heritage and culture. Her professional background includes serving as Chief Executive Officer of the South African Heritage Resource Agency, Director for Heritage at the National Department of Sport, Arts and Culture, Coordinator for South African National Parks, and working with the African World Heritage Fund.
